Fanny Pack Concealed Carry: Discussion and Brand Review
Hey there! Today, I want to talk to you about fanny pack carry. It's a topic that has gained a lot of attention lately, and I want to share my thoughts, recommendations, and reviews of some fanny packs available in the market. I'll even show you some footage from my range training this morning to give you a visual aid. So, let's dive right in! This article is based on my YouTube Review. I highly recommend watching the video as I provide visual aids of all of the topics discussed.
Benefits of Fanny Pack Carry:
One of the reasons fanny pack carry has become so popular is that it offers a simpler alternative to appendix carry. With appendix carry, you have to find the perfect combination of firearm, holster, and accessories. Fanny pack carry provides a more accessible and comfortable option without the need for all those additional components.
I also see fanny pack carry as a form of off-body carry, although the strap of the fanny pack is connected to our bodies. But let's focus on the term "off-body" for today's discussion.
Contraindications of Fanny Pack Carry:
Off-body carry, including fanny pack carry, does come with some concerns. One major issue is the risk of an attacker using the straps of your fanny pack to control your movements during a physical altercation. That's why it's important to be aware of your surroundings and consider the potential vulnerabilities.
Another challenge with fanny pack carry is the limited time you may have to access your firearm when an attacker closes in on you. Quick and efficient access is crucial in those situations to avoid a fight over your weapon.
Safety is also a key consideration. Pulling the firearm from a fanny pack horizontally or diagonally increases the risk of flagging others or accidentally discharging the weapon. Additional training and practice are necessary to mitigate these risks.
My Official Recommendation:
Based on the risks and limitations, I must give you my official recommendation: off-body carry, including fanny pack carry, is not as safe as inside-the-waistband (IWB) carry. However, personal circumstances and preferences vary, and it's up to you to make the best decision for your situation. Remember, we all strive to reduce risks and maximize accessibility while prioritizing concealment.
Now, let's talk about the fanny packs I've tried and reviewed. But before we delve into each specific type, I want to share the criteria I look for in a fanny pack:
1. Separate compartment for the firearm, away from other items.
2. A hard Kydex holster that fits your specific firearm, ensuring trigger guard protection.
3. A large and noticeable pull tab for easy access.
Fanny Pack Reviews:
I've personally tested several fanny packs to provide you with an accurate comparison. Here are three that I'll discuss in detail:
1. SOG Surrept Pack: Although not marketed as a concealed carry fanny pack, it fulfilled most of my criteria. With a simple modification of replacing the zipper tab, it became a viable option.
2. Galco Fastrax Pac Waistpack: This fanny pack, while comfortable, had some downsides. The holster material was softer, not fitting a specific firearm. Resetting the holster and quick access were challenging due to small zippers.
3. Vertx Concealed Carry Fanny Pack in Collaboration with Lena Miculek: This fanny pack has become my go-to choice. It's lightweight, versatile, and allows for wearing it across the chest or hips. The high-quality velcro provides reliable retention, and the large pull tab enhances accessibility. It also includes a rubber detail to keep it securely in place during movement.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the Vertx Concealed Carry Fanny Pack, in collaboration with Lena Miculek, has been my favorite among the fanny packs I've reviewed. It meets all my criteria, offers great aesthetics, and pairs well with various outfits. It's inconspicuous, resembling the viral Lululemon fanny pack that's been popular lately.

Disclaimer:
As always, please do your own research on this topic. I am only sharing my experience so far with fanny pack carry. I only use fanny pack carry at certain times, depending on my travel needs and do not recommend it as a replacement for inside the waistband carry.
